| Africycle LAB going to Zimbabwe! | |
|
Africycle and the Rotary Club of Whitby are teaming up to examine the genuine assistance of non-motorized transportation in Glendale, Zimbabwe. A long time partner of Rotary, the Howard Hospital is located about 80KM outside of Harare and serves a catchment area of hundreds of thousands. The Howard Hospital, like many health care organizations in Africa rely on the service of community based volunteers to deliver services to those who cannot pratically travel to the hospital. Bicycles, are a common solution to this challenge, mobilizing community based health care volunteers allowing them to reach people in rural communities and perform services in the field, reducing the burden on hospitals to treat / diagnose more minor cases. The Africycle LAB (the research arm of Africycle) will be undertaking to study the genuine assistance non-motorized transportation could potentially offer to the Howard Hospital workers, and the surrounding communities. Commencing in February 2010, this project will provide exciting opportunities for those key stakeholders involved and continue to work to provide tools for breaking the cycle of poverty.
